BAMS ( Bachelors of Medicine and Surgery)

Candidates willing to take medicine as a career can opt for Bachelors of Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) after the completion of Class 12. BAMS is an Aryuvedic traditional healing art in India. BAMS course provides the complete knowledge about ‘Ashtanga Ayurveda’ along with scientific advances in modern medicine along with extensive practical training. Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) is the responsible body for admission to Ayurveda education at undergraduate as well as postgraduate level and for practice Ayurvedic medicine in India. The admission to BAMS courses will be granted on the basis of scores obtained in NEET exam. Besides that, candidates must fulfil certain eligibility criteria of BAMS specified by the authority. BAMS syllabus and curriculum is uniform across the country and the admission to BAMS courses is done in only Ayurvedic colleges affiliated to the respective universities, which are permitted by Department of AYUSH, Union Government of India. Course Details

For the undergraduate education level, BAMS course is for five and a half years duration. After the completion of BAMS degree, the student will be awarded with the degree of ‘Ayurvedacharya’. The theory BAMS course is carried out in four and a half years, while it is necessary for candidates to complete a year rotatory internship for practical training. The degree of BAMS is divided into three profession theory, which are mentioned in the table below.

Course Eligibility

It is mandatory for aspirants to fulfil certain eligibility conditions to get admission to BAMS course. Some basic BAMS eligibility criteria is mentioned below.
Candidates are required to pass Class 12 or equivalent examination with science subjects ( Physics, Chemistry and Biology) and English core in both Class 11 and 12 from a recognised board.

He/she should have completed the age of 17 years at the time of admission or as on 31st December, 2019

An aspirant from general category needs to secure an aggregate of 50% in their Class 12 Board examination. While, for SC/ST/OBC candidates, the qualifying percentage is 40%

Candidates need to have qualified NEET by securing minimum qualifying cutoff percentile to get admission in BAMS course.

For foreign students any other equivalent qualification approved by the University will be allowed.

Scope
